Henry Thornton is an Australian fast bowler known for his speed and aggressive bowling style, playing for South Australia and the Adelaide Strikers, and notably achieving the most economical five-wicket haul in Big Bash League history with figures of 5/3.
Early Career & Development:
Born on December 16, 1996, in Kogarah, New South Wales, Thornton's talent was recognized early, leading to selection in the Under-13 Cricket NSW Academy Program.
He was part of the NSW Metro team that won the Under-19 National Championships in 2015/16 and subsequently represented Australia Under-19s, where he was the leading wicket-taker in the ODI section against England.
Thornton earned a NSW Blues rookie contract and later a full contract in 2017-18, also spending time training at the Bupa National Cricket Centre in Brisbane.
He made his List A debut for Cricket Australia XI in 2017 and his Sheffield Shield debut for South Australia in 2024.
Domestic & Big Bash League Career:
Thornton joined the Adelaide Strikers ahead of BBL|11 after being involved with the South Australian program.
He made headlines in BBL|12 by taking 5/3 against the Sydney Thunder, bowling them out for a record-low 15 runs.
He played for Victoria in the 2021/22 season before moving to South Australia full-time for the 2022/23 season.
Thornton won the inaugural Michael Bevan Medal as player of the match in the 2024-25 One-Day Cup final for South Australia.
